FIRE COMPOUNDING

Fire compounding is a fire protective property that is used as a substitute when a concrete slab has penetrations passing through it, such as wires and pipework.

Fire Compound installs are required when services penetrate through fire-rated floors and walls, to ensure the integrity of fire-management compartmentation. The compound will form a rigid seal to prevent fire and smoke spreading throughout the building, and it also has acoustic-damping properties.

Most fire compounds have a load-bearing capability when installed to the manufacturer’s specifications. This means the product can be installed even in areas where there may be light foot-traffic.
